Madrid Cargo Terminal

In its efforts to guarantee the quality of its service, IBERIA makes to its customers and users the Cargo Terminal in Madrid. In addition to the privileged geographical situation of this Terminal in the European continent, it is proper to emphasize its technical characteristics, the most modern and advanced air cargo handling and treatment and a team of highly qualified experienced professionals. As a whole, all this turns Operations Centre into the natural gate of Europe for the entry and exit of intercontinental cargo.

16,400 square meters; 9,000 on the ground side, with 9 loading bays and 7,400 square meters on the air side on a plot of land of 35,000 square meters.

36 loading and unloading bays for vehicles.

An automated (robotized) warehouse with 375 pallet positions of 10 feet each.

5 storage levels.

The central section of the warehouse is automated (robotized) for the storage of medium-sized consignments. Large baskets are used as storage units. Such a section being 20 meters in height and having 14 levels, can store 4,700 large baskets of 1.7 cubic meters each which are carried by 5 trans-elevators at a speed of 120 meters per second.

An automated warehouse for small-sized consignments (maximum, 2 parcels weighing 30 kg.). It is 12 meters high and has capacity to store 3,000 consignments (697 cubic meters).

A special enclosure for live animals.

Two warehouses for the storage of unit load devices (ULD’s). One with 290 positions for containers (LD3) and the other with 230 positions for 10-feet pallets, in addition to 32 positions for the storage of perishable cargo in cold stores: four 10-feet pallets in freezing facilities and twenty-eight pallets in refrigerating facilities.

A vault for the storage of highly valuable goods with a room previous the strongroom and a lock for vehicle loading and unloading operations.

A management computer system.

PERISHABLES – The Perishables Centre (located in an building annexed to the Cargo Terminal) is integrated into the Iberia/Madrid “PIF” (Puesto de Inspección Fronterizo - Border Inspection Post) with a perishables section of 2,500 square meters and a cold store of 800 square meters for the storage and meat and fish and a refrigerator of 187 square meters for the storage of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, there are some rooms for customers’ handling of consignments in accordance with their distribution logistics; 6 berths and parking spaces for trucks in a closed enclosure.
